Artwork/Easter fun

Using the eggs that were boiled yesterday, using felt pens or paint.  Each person to decorate their eggs with Easter designs, this could be as simple as Easter spots or stripes, to an Easter bunny or chick.  Use a piece of paper to design your egg first before decorating the egg. Once the egg is decorated put back in the box to use tomorrow.

Next part can either be done when the eggs have finished drying or during your Easter Weekend activities:

Using the eggs you have decorated you’re going to have an egg rolling competition.  This can be done outside or inside (but if done inside put something on the floor as the eggs might crack…) Using a tray or something hard and flat your going to make a ramp, you could use a box but it must be high enough to have a good angle for the eggs to roll down. Take it in turns to roll the egg down the ramp, put something where the egg has finished rolling to remember where it was.  Talk about whose egg went the furthest, maybe have some prizes for the best roll, the best decorated egg, the egg that has cracked the most and the egg that hasn’t cracked at all.  If Mum and Dad allow, take a picture of the competition and send an email of your pictures to me.  J

-Remember to take your time with your drawing and colouring.

Welcome to Willow Class!

My name is Miss Brown and I am the teacher of the reception class with our lovely teaching assistants Mrs Wiater and Mrs Stevens.

The reception class or EYFS as it can be known, encourages the children to become explorers and investigators; and to develop their creative minds through child-initiated learning and adult led activities.

When the children begin school in September we allow them the chance to settle in and make new friends, and then we gradually introduce short inputs such as Phonics and Maths.  At the end of this term we will be looking at the story “Where the Wild Things Are,” where we will look closely at our local environment and what “Wild Things” may live there.

There are many ways to support your children’s learning, at Newtown we notice the importance of reading.  As a celebration of the children’s reading at home we have the 100 Club, where the children will receive certificates and prizes for the times they have read at home.  Who will get to the milestone first?

When the children are in full-time they will have P.E. lessons on a Wednesday, please ensure their P.E. kit is in school every day.

We are very excited to meet all of you and get started on another exciting school year.  Please come back and visit this page throughout the year to see what your child has been up to.

Miss Brown

Under the sea!

Willow Class have been enjoying lots of different Under the Sea stories.  This week we are looking at the story of Tiddler, the fish with a big imagination.  We have been thinking about what the word imagination means and using puppets to make up different stories.  We have been looking at the function of a puppet and looking at how a marionette puppet is joined together.  We are now starting to make our own Under the Sea puppets.

Our First Welly Walk

Willow Class thoroughly enjoyed their first Welly Walk to Stallards Park.  The children walked beautifully to the park and discussed different types of transport they could see as they walked down.  They were great at hunting for Autumn leaves and especially enjoyed throwing them into the air.  After finding plenty of leaves to put in their bag, they then had a short play in the park, the seesaw was definitely a favourite.

When we got back to school the children used the leaves to create an autumnal picture.

Willow Class have been enjoying their first weeks in Newtown School.  They have been exploring the different areas of the class and have been making new friends.  The children have been on a tour of the school where they were able to meet some of the bigger children in the school and even had a chance to visit Mr Marshall in his office.  Willow Class have settled really well into school life and Miss Brown is looking forward to an amazing year with a super class.
