Teaching Assistant to Support Reading

Newtown Primary School is a vibrant and rewarding place to work at. Our team work hard to create a culture of high expectations, ambition and care for all.

Following the disruption caused by COVID school closures, we are looking to       employ a teaching assistant whose main role will be supporting children learning to read.

Reading matters to us at Newtown.   As a school, we know that teaching children to read successfully is one of the most important things that we can do for them.   It is a key life skill.  Children who can read well by the time they leave primary school, have a much greater chance of success at secondary school and in their future lives, than those who do not read well.

Supporting Reading

The main part of your role will be to work with individual children to develop their reading skills.   You will be well supported by a strong staff team and will be given the training and resources necessary for you to be successful in the role.

Supporting learning in class

At times, you will also be working alongside a class teacher to support the learning of children in class.

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone who understands children well and has good spoken and written English skills.

Preferably the ideal candidate would have a Level 3 standard qualification or above.  Level 3 standard qualifications include but are not limited to: A Levels, Level 3 diploma, and Level 3 NVQs.

Part time work would be considered for the right candidate.
