Sycamore Class (Year 1)

Welcome to Sycamore class.

Mrs Tawn is the teacher in year one and we have two fabulous teaching assistants, Miss McVeigh and Mrs Slade.

In year one we are a team of happy, hardworking and friendly children. This year we will be working hard and having fun across an exciting range of topics.

The children will continue to develop and will be using our dinosaurs (A Tryatops, a Think-a-rex and an Explorosaurus!) to help them to be effective learners in different areas.

Now we are in year one Mr Briant will be taking the children for PE twice a week. Please make sure your child has their full PE kit, including trainers or daps in school at all times.

Please also help us by supporting your child at home with their reading. We will be introducing the golden 100 club this year and want you to aim for 100 times reading at home. Once achieved your child will receive a prize from the 100 box and become a member of the 100 club!

I am so excited for the adventure that awaits us in year one, please keep an eye on here to see some of the wonderful things we will be doing across the year.

Health Week

Sycamore class looked at healthy recipes and made pasta salads to share with their families and fruit popsicles, perfect for a sunny summers day!

Superhero Day!

On Monday Year 1 became SUPER SYCAMORE when the children all came in dressed in costumes. We had some amazing super hero characters and it was lovely to see some real life heroes from the past in our Florence Nightingales! We had a super day writing our super hero identity cards and solving super sums! Thank you for all your efforts! Mrs Tawn AKA- Super teacher!!

What a treat!

For earning 25 pebbles in our jar in term 1 the children chose to ice biscuits as their treat and ice them we did! The class made some very sweet and sticky creations, picking from an array of topping choices to make their biscuits extra yummy. We all had a fab time making them and an even better time eating them!

Collecting data

This week in maths the children in year 1 have been finding out different ways to sort and record data. We have been looking at Venn diagrams and here you can see the children hard at work collecting data to record into a Carroll diagram. Well done Sycamore class, what fantastic mathematicians you are!

Reading Stars!

Congratulations to Laila, Madison and Tianna from Sycamore class, who have been the first to reach the 25 times milestone with reading at home. They are making great progress towards becoming a valued member of the Newtown 100 reading club! Can you catch up with them?

Book Creator

Sycamore class have been brushing up on their I-pad skills this week through our use of 'Book creator'. We needed to add pictures, write and edit text and the children even learnt how to change the size and font to make their work completely unique. The children have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own digital book about themselves, although I think their favourite part was definitely uploading their silly selfies!
