Willow Class (Reception)
Welcome to Willow Class!
My name is Miss Huggett and I am the teacher of the reception class with our lovely teaching assistants Mrs Stevens and Mrs Wiater.
The reception class or EYFS as it can be known, encourages the children to become explorers and investigators; and to develop their creative minds through child-initiated learning and adult led activities.
When the children begin school in September we allow them the chance to settle in and make new friends, and then we gradually introduce short inputs such as Phonics and Maths. At the end of this term we will be looking at the people who help us in our community and learn about their different roles.
There are many ways to support your children’s learning, at Newtown we recognise the importance of reading. As a celebration of the children’s reading at home we have the 100 Club, where the children will receive certificates and prizes for the times they have read at home. Who will get to the milestone first?
When the children are in full-time they will have P.E. lessons weekly. Please ensure their P.E. kit is in school every day.

Our trip to Longleat:
Written by the Willow class children.
On Friday we went to Longleat. We saw lots of different animals including the meerkats. The meerkats ran around in between our feet, and we even saw one stand as a look out. We also saw 5 Koalas and the little baby called Hazel. We went on an amazing boat trip. When we were on the boat we saw the hippos and we threw fish to feed the sealions. When we were waiting for the boat, we saw red pandas. They loved to climb up high. After we had our lunch we went on the carousel. It was really fun. At the end of the day we came back to school on the coach.
Willow Class Term 1
WOW! What an amazing first term the Willow Class children have had 😊 We have had a brilliant 1st term at school and have settled in amazingly. We have been busy making new friends, engaging with our different learning environments and learning lots of new sounds. We have done some very exciting things this term including building dens with our friends, meeting our pet guinea pigs, planting seeds and finding sounds everywhere!
