Maple Class (Year1/2)

Hello and welcome to Maple Class! We are both really looking forward to teaching you all and can’t wait for a successful year together. We are very lucky to have Mrs Clark as our teaching assistant and we will also have Miss Camp on Monday afternoons too. Mrs Cameron will be teaching the class at the beginning of each week on a Monday and Tuesday, with Mrs Titchener teaching every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We are delighted to be moving up with many of the children into Maple Class and we are really looking forward to welcoming some new faces as well. Our classroom is a happy place to be and we always work with a ‘have a go’ attitude, knowing that it’s ok to make mistakes.

We are going to have an amazing year and there is so much to be excited about with our learning. Our year will begin with our fantastic DT topic, where we will be looking at bridges and will have the chance to make our very own bridges. In history this year we will be learning all about Space Explorers, as well as The Great Fire of London. We can't wait for our Australia and Antarctic topic in science too!

Key things to remember:

  • PE days are on a Monday and Thursday. PE kits must be in school every day and need to be labelled with your child's name.
  • We also advise all school uniform to be labelled as this makes finding your child’s items that much easier if they go missing. Please check the school's uniform policy if you are unsure of the colours of items of clothing that your child should have.
  • Children are expected to read daily and record this in their reading records - it is fine for them to record this themselves. It would be really helpful if your child could bring their bookbag to school with them day as reads will be counted multiple times a week - we love to see children getting their reading certificates and want this to happen as often as possible!
  • Spelling and Maths homework will be sent home every Friday in the orange homework book. All homework must be completed and handed in by the following Friday.
  • The children’s homework book can also be used for any additional home learning should your child wish to do this. We love to see this home learning in school, and there will be time for the most amazing pieces of home learning to be shown to the rest of the class during the week.
