Beech (Year 4)

Tri Golf

Welcome to Beech Class!

Our Year 4 Teacher is Mrs Bieda and our fantastic Teaching Assistant is Mrs Phillips. We are looking forward to the year ahead with lots of exciting topics to explore.

In Beech Class we think of others and always try our best. This is so we can all enjoy learning in a caring and positive environment.

PE lessons will be with Mr Briant, but we would kindly ask that P.E. kits are in school every day in case there are any changes.

Eric Joyner - A study of his work

During Term 5, Beech class really enjoyed learning about their focus artist Eric Joyner and his paintings.

When writing a biography of Eric Joyner, the children asked him questions via e-mail and were delighted when he replied.

Because his paintings feature robots and doughnuts, the children made junk model robots and took photographs of their robots in the school grounds. They then used water colours to paint their photographs with amazing results. They also drew detailed charcoal drawings of clockwork robots which now feature in the display outside our classroom.

Literacy the children read The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and wrote newspaper reports, diary entries and their own robot stories. To end the topic, the children compared the book to a different version of the story by watching the film The Iron Giant.

Sound

Beech Class have been learning about sound during their Science lessons this term, this has included learning about pitch. To investigate pitch and how it can be changed to a higher or lower sound, the children made their own pan pipes. It was a noisy but enjoyable afternoon!

We have been playing Tri-golf in P.E. with Mr. Briant. We have been learning how to hit the ball accurately and also how to chip the ball over the cones.  Last week we played some Tri-golf games; we learned how many points you get and had to keep score. The person with the least points wins.

(Zak Year 4)

The Romans

The topic in Beech class this term is The Romans and as their class treat, the children enjoyed an afternoon of Roman activities last week! They made Roman bracelets, wreaths, mosaic pictures and feasted on Roman biscuits.  The children had a fantastic time and it was really lovely to see so many of them helping each other to complete the activities.

Roald Dahl Day

Beech and Chestnut class worked together and enjoyed designing chocolate bar wrappers and making ladders for The Giraffe and the Pelly. They also had great fun making their own 'Marvellous medicines' (smoothies).

In Beech Class we have been really busy! We have been learning about the life of Roald Dahl and have created a timeline of his life which is now displayed in our classroom. On Roald Dahl Day we really enjoyed watching Quentin Blake draw an Oompa Loompa and we then drew our own. In Science our topic is Electricity where we have been investigating making circuits. We have also learnt about how dangerous electricity can be and are all able to tell others how to use electricity safely.
