  • Y6 Residential - Fire Building

    Fri 09 Jun 2017

Our final day ended on a high when the children learnt how to build a fire. This was actually trickier than it sounds. Initially the children had to gather three bundles of sticks (small for the waffle, medium to build the fire up and large to help the structure. Then they persevered with a flint to ignite the cotton wool to get it started. Once started, it was crucial to keep it going and a careful watch was needed by all team members. The children were then given a variety to culinary delights: courgettes, sausages, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms and pitta breads. With these ingredients they prepared a fantastic lunch. Some children chose to create an omelette style meal whilst others used their patience to cook individually for all team members. The children have been absolutely remarkable with one in particular, Liam Jones, showing promising culinary skills which could lead him towards a very successful career in the future!

Another exciting day at Braeside. Today we have been canoeing, pond dipping and taking the leap of faith! This evening we completed a DT challenge to build a tower out of art straws as tall as possible and which had to hold a tennis ball.... hungry work so the chicken korma dinner went down a treat with most having seconds!!
